Forest school at Capel Primary School goes from strength to strength

Forest school at Capel Primary School goes from strength to strength. The purpose of forest school is to foster holistic child development, including social, emotional, and physical skills, through regular, hands-on, child-led learning in a natural outdoor environment. It builds confidence and self-esteem, encourages risk assessment and problem-solving, and connects children with the natural world in a way that complements, rather than replaces, traditional classroom learning.

Karen Lee, Capel’s forest school trained teacher has told us:

“We are enjoying the autumn air at forest school. With leaf piles and fungus, campfires and acorn whistles. Last term year 1 listened to the bird song, learnt why trees drop their leaves in autumn and made hibernation homes for their cuddly animals.

Today, year 2 have been exploring the site for micro habitats and discovering what mini beasts live under the logs, in the trees and puddles. Over this term we and planning to make conker rockets, bird feeders and create some Christmas decorations.  And of course, we will be having a hot chocolate and sing song around the fire pit”.

CGPS is glad to have provided funding to help support the school with this project.
