On a scorchingly hot day in June, the Five Oak Green Community Gardening Group unveiled a new Information Board in the Worraker Community Orchard. The Community Gardening Group have been able to carry out a lot of work in the orchard in the last few months thanks to various fundraising activities and donations of funds from organisations including CGPS. New trees have been planted including a number of flowering cherries, older trees have had their name plates renewed and the information board has been designed, refined and placed at the edge of the orchard. Many people were able to attend the unveiling including many of Roger and Celia Worraker’s friends, old colleagues and representatives from the organisations who were generous with their donations. Jose Twynam from the Gardening Group gave a speech, followed by Roger and Celia’s son James and then Andrew Tinsley, Technical Secretary to the Awards Council of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers. The board and beautiful new bench both look amazing. The interpretation board gives a huge amount of information spanning a description of the orchard, the fruit varieties within the orchard, the orchard year – season by season, and the wildlife that will be attracted to the area.
